Its already the second half of 2016, and Korean dramas are flooding in to fill your TV schedule.
Yet another year of Korean drama that will make you weep, laugh and gasp throughout the series and assignments do not seem as important as finishing the drama in one night. Not that we’re encouraging but just in case you have time during lunch and you want to enjoy the food whilst watching your favorite Korean top stars, here is our list of upcoming must watch drama.
Set to air in July, the two of the rising young actors; Kim Woo Bin and Suzy, star in KBS latest drama. Separated at a very young age, Shin Joon-Young (Kim Woo-Bin) and No Eul (Bae Suzy) are reunited as successful adults with different beliefs. Joon-young is a famous celebrity who is both attractive and intelligent whereas No Eul is a producer that prioritize money and power. This clash of personalities will make this an intoxicating drama.

Hwarang: The Beginning
The main cast lineup for this drama is enough to excite fans. An impressive casting of famous actors and idols including Park Seo-Joon, Go Ara, Park Hyung-sik, Choi Minho (Shinee), Kim Taehyung (BTS V) and many more. Hwarang carries the meaning of ‘Flowering Knights’ with the story of growing young men trying to find their way in life through passion and love. This historical drama takes place in the Kingdom of Silla era and expected to be one of this year’s favorite.

Last year’s rising actor, Lee Jong Suk, is set to appear in MBC’s new drama, W (working title), alongside the ever so beautiful and talented actress, Han Hyo Joo. The duo will play the parts of Kang Chul (Lee Jong Suk) and Oh Yeon-Joo (Han Hyo Joo) and we’ll be able to follow their love story as they reached the big 3 0. This combo is worth the anticipation and we finally get to see Han Hyo Joo returning to the small screen after 6 years of focusing on film.

Baek Hee Has Returned
With a one-line synopsis released to the public, this family drama will star Kang Ye-Won as Yang Baek-Hee and Kim Sung-Oh who is famous for his role in Secret Garden playing the male lead role, Woo Bum-Ryong. Choi Phillip and Jin Ji-Hee join the drama to create one interesting cast. The drama is set in undisturbed island where Baek-Hee flee with her daughter and returns after 18 years, but this time she returns as someone else. Why? We have no idea. You need to watch it to find out more about this intriguing drama.

Saimdang, the Herstory
Historical drama is big in Korea. Remember Jewel in the Palace? That drama was great and the lead actress, Lee Young Ae, is back with yet another one, SBS Saimdang, the Herstory. More great news is Song Seung Heon (Autumn in My Heart) is joining her in the drama and there is a big possibility this is going to be one of the fans’ favorite this year. A genius painter, Shin Saimdang (Song Seung Heon) who is considered a historical figure falls in love with a Korean art history lecturer after she stumbled upon his diary and she untangles the secret behind a mysterious portrait.

“I will put on doctor’s gown in 9 years since “Thank You” – Jang Hyuk
King of dramas, Jang Hyuk, dive back into a new KBS2 medical drama ‘Beautiful Mind’ and we’re excited. Dubbed as ‘Dr. Frakenstein’, the lead role Lee Yeong-on is a cold, emotionless but brilliant neurosurgeon with a split personality as a result of a frontal lobe lesion. He gradually re-learns the feeling of love and compassion after getting involved with mysterious deaths of his patients. 2016 rising actress, Park So Dam will also be a part of the anticipated drama.

Moonlight Drawn by Clouds
Park Bo-Gum and Kim Yoo Jung collaborates in the youth-filled cast of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds. Yet another romance set under the historical setting. The synopsis reminds me of Sungkyunkwan Scandal where Hong Ra-On (Kim Yoo-Jung) gives men advice on dating by disguising herself as a man and one of her cases led her straight to Crown Prince Hyomyeong (Park Bo-Gum). He, of course, has no idea that Hong Ra-on is a girl and becomes interested in ‘him’. Cliché plot with a different cast, we’ll see how it prevail among other dramas.

Doctors is a relatable drama that will touch the heart of many people. Yoo Hae-Jeong had a tough childhood. Despite her outgoing personality and tough exterior, she has a darker side residing in her that makes trusting people an impossible task and relationship a huge no-no. Now a doctor, she has to compete with a former classmate who is born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Nevertheless, she learns how to be a good doctor despite the unfair social hierarchy. Park Shin-Hye, Kim Rae-Won, Yoon Gyung-Sang, and Lee Sung-Kyung are some of the names that will star in the drama.

Scarlet Heart: Ryeo
Iljimae’s Lee Jun Ki is paired with singer IU in Scarlet Heart: Ryeo. The story is about a 21st century girl that is transported back to the Goryeo period where she meets Prince Wang So. This drama also has star-studded cast that includes Kang Ha-Neul, Hong Jong Hyun, EXO’s Baekhyun, Kang Ha-Na and Girl’s Generation Seohyun.

Finally, a thriller! Wanted, starring Kim Ah-Joong and Uhm Tae-Woong, is a suspense crime-mystery drama that will satisfy those in need of action. Jung Hae-In is a successful actress planning to retire when her son is kidnapped, forcing her to go on live TV as instructed by the kidnappers. A few episodes of this drama will leave you waiting for the next episode.

Let’s Fight Ghost
TvN is going big with their latest drama ‘Let’s Fight Ghost’ based on web-comic starring 2PM’s Ok Taecyeon and the famous young actress Kim So Hyun. 19-year old Kim Hyun-Ji (Kim So Hyun) died in an accident and has been wandering the Earth aimlessly before she meets an exorcist, Park Bong Pal and they join forces to help other ghosts to move on to the afterlife.

38 Task Force
A little bit of entertainment in the middle of that assignment won’t hurt. You’d probably want to tune in to 38 Task Force, a comedy crime series set to air soon. Watch what happens when the task force chief of Seoul City Hall has to work with a con man to go around town collecting taxes. A simple plot with a promise of a big laughter. Can’t think of a better excuse to burn the midnight oil.
