It goes without saying that there are quite a few world leaders out there who have gathered a following based not on their policies but on their looks, among other things.
Here at CampusPlus, we’ve compiled a list of 10 current and former World Leaders (in no particular order) who can probably tell you to go to hell in such a way that you’ll actually look forward to the trip. Yes, we know there are a whole list of leaders out there who should have made it here but this is our list guys.
1. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
Age: 45
Years in office: November 2015 – Present
Fun fact: Justin’s great-great-great-great-great- grandfather is William Farquhar, whose wife was born of an ethnic Malaccan mother, which makes him the first Canadian Prime Minister to have verified non-European ancestry.
2. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia
Age: 91
Years in office: July 1981 – October 2013
Fun fact: Having served for more than 2 decades, he was the world’s longest-serving democratically-elected leader in the world.
3. Barack Obama, POTUS
Age: 55
Years in office: January 2009 – Present
Fun fact: Aside from the being the first African American to be elected President of the United States, he is also the first President to have been born in Hawaii.
4. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, President of Croatia
Age: 48
Years in office: February 2015 – Present
Fun fact: Besides being the first female President of the republic, she is also the youngest to hold the post.
5. Alexis Tsipras, Prime Minister of Greece
Age: 42
Years in office: September 2015 – Present
Fun fact: He is a self-described atheist, making him 1 of only 4 publicly recognized atheist heads of government and state in the European Union.
6. Park Geun-hye, President of South Korea
Age: 64
Years in office: February 2013 – Present
Fun fact: She is the first female head of state in Korea’s history, the first female South Korean President, and the first female president of an East Asian nation.
7. His Excellency Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, Former President of South Africa
Age: 95 (18th July 1918 – 5 December 2013)
Years in office: May 1994 – June 1999
Fun fact: He was on the U.S Terror Watch until 2008. He was placed on it while he was with the African national Congress fighting against apartheid.
8. Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Former Prime Minister of Denmark
Age: 50
Years in office: October 2011 – June 2015
Fun fact: She is the first female Prime Minister of Denmark as well a the first female Leader of the Social Democrats.
9. Yingluck Shinawatra, Former Prime Minister of Thailand
Age: 49
Years in office: August 2011 to May 2014
Fun fact: She is Thailand’s first female Prime Minister as well as the youngest person to hold that position in over 60 years.
10. Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Former President of Argentina
Age: 63
Years in office: December 2007 – December 2015
Fun fact: This Argentinian lawyer is the second woman to serve as President of Argentina, the first directly elected female president, and the first woman to be re-elected.
